Utena is not your typical girl even if she might call herself normal. She'll happily strut around the school in boy's clothing and even though it gets her in trouble with the principal, she still gallantly sticks to her beliefs and continues to keep her noble appeal. You could say that she is a rebel WITH a cause. And that's one of the reasons why so many people end up being attracted to her in one way or another. Utena has a very individualistic personality that makes her different from the bunch. It's stated constantly in the series that Utena had met a prince from a long time ago that had saved her from the pits of her despair. As a child, Utena had lost her parents and she figured that life wasn't worth living... In the end, she wanted to see something 'eternal' to escape her plight and the rose-scent prince had appeared before her. Now in the beginning, that's what the audience is revealed to know about Utena's childhood story. However, we later discover that Utena had wanted to become a prince in order to save Anthy (the Rose Bride) from her endless suffering and torment. The prince and Anthy had ended up becoming such strong influences on her that she decided to become a strong and noble girl from that day before. She was going to become a prince who wanted to save princesses. And the reason why she wears boy's clothing is be closer to the prince that she idolizes. Now socially, Utena is pretty friendly and cool towards others. She's the kind of person who will help out others when necessary. She will stick up for her friends whenever they're being bullied and even help out the Sport teams of her school. However, she won't join them because she doesn't have to work with 'sweaty boys'. This shows that while she acts pretty boyish, Utena still remembers that she's a girl herself. It's not that Utena wants to literally become a boy, but she wants to becoming more like a dashing prince. There's no rule that says that princes can't be girls, right?
Now Utena's most biggest flaw is her own naivete and innocence. While her heart is always in the right place, her emotions can easily be manipulated and swayed by others. For starters, Utena ended up getting roped into the Dueling Game involving winning Anthy as a Bride because she wanted to protect the honor of her friend, Wakaba, who had her love letter shown off and humiliated in front of the entire school. And also, this is horribly played off later on in the series when Akio seduces Utena and she ends up falling in love with him. This had ended up making Utena more into a 'girlish princess' than a 'tomboy prince' as how Akio planned it. It's even revealed that Anthy has also took part in manipulating Utena from the very beginning because of her kindness and innocence. And on the other side of the coin, Utena is pretty conceited about herself. While she wanted to protect Anthy and be her prince, she never really took time to fully understand her and the suffering that she had been going through. Not to mention, Utena's child-like innocence is a double-edged sword. Juri refers to Utena as 'cruelly innocent' which means that Utena can end up hurting people's feelings without even meaning to. This can be shown through how Utena can be horribly blunt sometimes when talking to people or consistently getting into other people's problems and prodding on the issues rather than letting the people solve the issues themselves. On the other end of the spectrum, Utena can be extremely dense sometimes. Another disturbing example of this was when Anthy had been consistently leaving late at night to sleep with her brother (in the adult way) and she never gets the clue until she accidentally discovers the truth for herself. While it's good that Utena trusts people, she can be too trusting sometimes.
You could also say that her ideal to become a prince and meet her prince again from a long time ago is a flaw within itself. In a way, Utena is still chained down to her past and playing fantasy games with her starring as a 'prince' - The hero of her personal fairy tale. So in a way, she's still sleeping in her fantasy world and hasn't woken up from her 'coffin' yet. There are numerous occasions in the series where Utena realizes that playing prince isn't always a good idea and that it even gets her into more trouble than it should. For example, Utena ends up getting attacked by Saionji and ends up getting saved by Touga (who gets wounded in the process). After this event, Utena ends up getting depressed over the fact that someone had gotten hurt for her sake and she couldn't protect herself from the incoming threat. Moving on, Utena carries a strong sense of responsibility even if she's young. The bulk of this is her responsibility of protecting Anthy from the Student Council since she's the current champion. Not to mention, Utena wants to free Anthy from being the Rose Bride and have her live a normal life. As said before, Utena is in the prince's shoes with Anthy as her princess. The relationship between these two is the main key point of the series as Utena's friendship for her is constantly tested. Overall, Utena is a strong and noble girl who still has some growing up to do. But her memories of the prince, her motivation to finding him along with freeing Anthy from being the Rose Bride are the only things that keep her going.

Hi, everyone! Um, I'm still wondering if these people had gotten someone else and I'm just here by mistake. Believe me, I'm just a totally normal girl who doesn't really know the first thing about saving the world. I mean, I know princes go out to save princesses, but I've never heard of a prince who ended up saving the entire world. Don't you think that it would be a heavy burden to put on the prince's shoulders...? Well... Maybe if someone were handling out manuals about how to do that, then I'd have a better idea on what I'm up against.
Still... The treatment that we're getting here is almost too good to be true! It's like they're rolling out the red carpet for us. But if this is some kind of weird dream, then I'd be happy for my conscience to wake me up now. Somethin' like a drop kick hitting me in the face or cold water splashing me would do. Ehe, I'm just kidding on those parts! Personally, I think an alarm ringing or Chu Chu clinging to my face would be more easy going in my book.
By the way... Has anyone seen a girl with purple hair, green eyes and brown skin? Her name is Anthy Himemiya and she's a really kind girl. If there are any gardens around here, then you might have seen her hanging around them. I'm gonna go and check around more for myself, but a little extra help wouldn't hurt! I'll find a way to return the favor somehow!
And another thing! Whenever my assistance here is all said and done with, do you think that these gods could leave some divine power left for me to pass some tests whenever I get back to school? It would really come in handy.
